FORMER GUARD SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF A PERSON IN OFFICIAL DETENTION
(HOUSTON) – Former contract guard at the Leidel Comprehensive Sanction Center Nathan Jones, 30, of Houston, has been sentenced to prison for sexual abuse of a person in official detention, United States Attorney Tim Johnson announced today. The Leidel Comprehensive Sanction Center is a half-way house located in Houston.
United States District Court Judge Keith Ellison sentenced Jones to five months in federal prison to be followed by five months home confinement at a hearing held this morning. Following the completion of the prison term, the court further ordered Jones to serve a two-year-term of supervised release. Jones was convicted in August 2009 of the federal felony offense after admitting that on Dec. 15, 2007, while employed as a contract guard at the Leidel Comprehensive Sanction Center, he engaged in a sexual act with a female federal prisoner in his office at the half-way house. At the time of the sexual act, the victim was in official detention at the center and under the custodial, supervisory and disciplinary authority of Jones.
Jones is no longer employed at the center. On bond since his arrest, Jones has been permitted to remain on bond pending the issuance of an order to surrender to a Bureau of Prisons facility to be designated in the near future.
The charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice - Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Ruben R. Perez prosecuted the case for the government.
