BAR OWNERS PLEAD GUILTY TO CONSPIRACY TO HARBOR ALIENS

(McALLEN, Texas) - Tereso Murrillo Olivo, 54, and Nancy Olivo, 43, of Mission, Texas, have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to harbor aliens, United States Attorney José Angel Moreno announced today.

In April of this year, agents received information that El Centenario Bar, owned and operated by the couple and located in Mission, Texas, was employing undocumented aliens as barmaids. On Sept. 9, 2010, agents arrived at the couples’ residence and found three illegal aliens living there. Through the investigation, it was determined that these aliens as well as others worked at the bar owned by the defendants.

Earlier today, the Olivos’ appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane and entered their pleas of guilty. As part of the plea agreement, they have agreed to forfeit their interest in the bar.

Sentencing has been set for Jan. 10, 2011, at which time they face up to 10 years in prison and a fine in up to $250,000. Tereso Olivo has been in custody where he will remain, while Nancy was permitted to remain on bond.

The investigation leading to the charges against the Olivos was conducted through a joint effort with Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations and Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission. Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly Ann Leo prosecuted the case.
