CCAD CONTRACTING OFFICER GUILTY OF RECEIVING BRIBES

(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) – Jack Edward Griffin, 56, formerly a contracting officer representative at the Corpus Christi Army Depot, pleaded guilty to receiving bribes, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.

At a hearing before Chief United States District Judge Hayden Head, Griffin admitted that while he was acting on behalf of the United States, he accepted money and other gifts in exchange for assigning profitable work to particular contractors and approving shoddy or incomplete work. He was responsible for overseeing contracts at the Corpus Christi Army Depot located on the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, and his conduct allowed contractors to defraud the United States Government.

Griffin faces up to 15 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, a three-year term of supervised release and a $100 special assessment. Sentencing is set for March 20, 2008, at 9:15 a.m.

The case was investigated by agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the FBI and  was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert D. Thorpe Jr.
