Anti Terrorism Unit
Following 9/11, Attorney General John Ashcroft issued
a directive ordering all United States Attorney's Offices to make
the fight against terrorism "our first and overriding priority."
In keeping with this mandate, the Western District of Texas created
a new Unit dedicated solely to our anti-terrorism efforts. The Anti-Terrorism
and National Security Unit provides organizational structure and
support in the war on terrorism and will greatly enhance our office's
capabilities to detect, disrupt, and prosecute terrorist related
activities.
The Unit is charged with the mission of investigating
and prosecuting all terrorist related offenses. The Unit fully participates
with the Anti-Terrorism Advisory Committee and Joint Terrorism Task
Forces to share information at the federal, state, and local level
and to provide a coordinated response to any future terrorist incidents.
The Unit is headed up by the Anti-Terrorism Coordinator
who serves as the Chief. In addition, three Counter-Terrorism prosecutors
have been assigned to serve in the San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso
divisions and are responsible for cases in their region. The National
Security Coordinator, is also a member of the team bringing his
expertise to the Unit. The Unit has hired an Intelligence Analyst,
a Regional Security Specialist, and a Litigation Support position.
The Intelligence Analyst will also serve as the Chief Information
Officer for terrorism in the District. |
