Project Safe Neighborhoods

In 2001, the United States Department of Justice Initiated Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide program targeting violent firearms offenders. United States Attorney Johnny Sutton used PSN as a vehicle to expand the already existing Texas Exile program. In this program, the U.S. Attorney's offices prosecute convicted felons who unlawfully possess firearms, criminals engaged in selling firearms without a license and criminals possessing/using/carrying firearms in federal crimes of violence or drug trafficking. This year the Western District of Texas will distribute approximately $900,000 to local law enforcement agencies and non profit entities to assist them in helping to reduce gun crime in their communities.
