Neil H. MacBride
Neil H. MacBride was confirmed as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia on Sept. 15, 2009. As United States Attorney, Mr. MacBride supervises the prosecution of all federal crimes and the litigation of civil matters in which the federal government has an interest. He oversees the work of more than 200 attorneys and support staff in Alexandria, Richmond, Newport News, and Norfolk in a jurisdiction covering 4.7 million residents.
Before serving as United States Attorney, Mr. MacBride was Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice. He was also an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia where he tried dozens of felony cases.
In addition to his service in the Department of Justice, Mr. MacBride served as chief counsel and staff director for the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs. He has also practiced criminal and civil litigation at a Washington, D.C., law firm now known as DLA Piper and served as General Counsel and Vice President of the Business Software Alliance, a technology trade association.
Mr. MacBride is a graduate of University of Virginia School of Law. He served as law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Henry C. Morgan, Jr. of the Eastern District of Virginia.
