Victims Services
The Victim/Witness Assistance Program provides the following services:
- Informs victims of services available, directing victims to community based resources and social services, if appropriate. Although the Victim/Witness Assistance Program can make a referral to these organizations, we are not affiliated with, nor do we endorse, any organization. A victim should independently consider and assess any services that such organizations may offer.
- Orients victims and witnesses to the criminal justice system, explaining the criminal justice process and court procedures.
- Notifies victims and witnesses of the status of cases, court appearances, and case dispositions.
- Provides logistical information and assistance to victims and witnesses with respect to directions, transportation, parking, and assistance with transportation and lodging arrangements for out-of-state witnesses, when appropriate.
- Provides victims with information about court-ordered restitution.
- Assists victims with prompt return of personal property held as evidence in a criminal case.
- Escorts victims and witnesses to and from court, as appropriate.
- Advocates for victims within the criminal justice system.
The Victim/Witness Assistance Program cannot make financial rewards, cannot provide legal advice, and cannot pay for the replacement of stolen or damaged property.
