Julia C. Dudley
Assistant United States Attorney

Mrs. Dudley is a native of Grayson County, Virginia. Julie attended the University of Virginia where she majored in Environmental Science. In 1982, she obtained her B.A. Degree from the UVa. Following college, Julie received her J.D. from the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, in Macon, Georgia. Upon graduation, Julie served as a law clerk to the Honorable Glen M. Williams, District Judge, in Abingdon, Virginia. She then served as the Pro Se Law Clerk for the judges and magistrates of the Western District of Virginia until September 1988.
In October 1988, Julie was hired as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. Since coming on board as an AUSA, Julie has handled both criminal and civil cases and was the managing attorney in our Abingdon Branch for three years. In 1995, she moved to Roanoke and was designated as a civil attorney and thereafter handled defensive and affirmative civil litigation for this office. In November 2001, Julie was appointed to the position of Civil Chief and, in June 2006, she became the First Assistant United States Attorney for our office. She served as the United States Attorney from May 2008 until October 2009. She is currently serving as the First Assistant United States Attorney and the Ethics Advisoral Responsibility Officer.
