HUSBAND AND WIFE
SENTENCED ON CONSPIRACY CHARGES
Shaun and Tammie Davie Will Each Serve Time in Prison
ABINGDON, VIRGINIA -- A husband and wife who were involved in a conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine were both in U.S. District Court today being sentenced on drug and gun charges.
Shaun Peter Davie, 41, and his wife, Tammie Martin Davie, 44, both of Chilhowie, Va., were sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Abingdon. Shaun Davie was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and 10 years supervised release after pleading guilty on June 16, 2009, to one count of conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Tammie Davie was sentenced to three years imprisonment and three years supervised release after pleading guilty on June 16, 2009, to one count of conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine.
According to evidence presented at both defendants’ guilty plea and sentencing hearings by Assistant United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee, a search warrant was executed at the Davies’ residence in Chilhowie, Va. by county and federal law enforcement agents on February 12, 2009, after an investigation demonstrated that not only were Shaun and Tammie Davie involved in the distribution of methamphetamine in Smyth County and Washington County, Va., but that Shaun Davie, a previously convicted felon, also possessed numerous firearms.
Numerous firearms and blasting caps were seized both at Davies’ residence and at Shaun Peter Davie’s sister’s residence in Chilhowie, Va., where a second search warrant was also executed on February 12, 2009. According to the investigation, Shaun Davie had been distributing methamphetamine since 2005 in Southwest Virginia. Further evidence indicated that during the spring and summer of 2008, while Shaun Davie was incarcerated in the Abingdon Regional Jail, Tammie Davie became involved in the conspiracy. Numerous recorded phone calls demonstrated that Tammie Davie actively collected drug debts and coordinated with her husband and others to ensure that his drug distribution activities could continue even though he was incarcerated.
The investigation of this case was conducted by the Smyth County Sheriff’s Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee of the United States Attorney’s Office in Abingdon prosecuted the case.
