METHAMPHETAMINE DEALER RECEIVES TWENTY YEAR SENTENCE
United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced that David Tobias May, age 46, of Draper, Virginia was sentenced today in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon. Chief United States District Judge James P. Jones sentenced May to a total term of imprisonment of 240 months.
On May 4, 2009, May pled guilty, pursuant to a plea agreement, to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possessing a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. May distributed methamphetamine in Carroll County, Virginia between June 2006 and February 2007. He was armed while he distributed methamphetamine. May has been in custody since 2007. There is no parole in the federal system.
“Putting David May behind bars makes Carroll County a safer place,” United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley said today. “The United States Attorney’s office feels the sentence handed down today is fair, just and fitting considering May’s conduct and criminal background.”
The investigation of this case was conducted by the Carroll County Sheriff’s’s Office and the Bristol, Virginia Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Randy Ramseyer prosecuted the case for the United States.
