MILTON MAN, RAYMOND O. SMITH, SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, AFTER HAVING BEEN PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF ABUSIVE SEXUAL CONTACT REGARDING A MINOR IN 1995, TO 130 MONTHS IN PRISON TO BE FOLLOWED BY LIFETIME SUPERVISED RELEASE

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Raymond Olen Smith, 59, of 30 River Street, Milton, Vermont, was sentenced yesterday by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss, to 130 months in prison, $7,000 in restitution, and life-time supervised release.

According to Court documents, Smith traveled to Ohio to meet a sixteen year-old girl, unbeknownst to her parents, and enticed her to a motel room for sexual contact on three occasions.  While at the motel, Smith took nude photographs of the victim that he transported back to Vermont.  The photographs constitute child pornography.  According to the Information, to which Smith pled guilty, he was previously convicted in Chittenden Superior Court in Vermont on May 25, 1995 to abusive sexual contact of a minor, a separate victim.

Smith was arrested on March 21, 2012 and a complaint was filed against him that same day.  He indicted by a federal grand jury on March 29, 2012.  On April 4, 2013, Smith pled guilty to the Information charging him with possession of child pornography after having been previously convicted in Vermont of abusive sexual conduct of a minor.  Smith has been in continuous custody in jail beginning on the date of his arrest, March 21, 2012.

         This case was investigated by the Urbana, Ohio Police Department, the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations, and the United States Secret Service.  The United States Attorney, Tristram J. Coffin commends those agencies for their work.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nancy J. Creswell.  Smith was represented by the Office of the Federal Public Defender.
