HIGHGATE MAN SENTENCED FOR BURGLARIES

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Jason Bockus, 27, of Highgate, Vermont, was sentenced today in United States District Court in Brattleboro, Vermont, to 37-months imprisonment following his guilty plea to a burglary charges. United States District Judge J. Garvan Murtha also ordered that Bockus serve a two (2) year period of supervised release, pay a $200 special assessment, and pay $2,100 in restitution to M&R Guns and Ammo Shop in Highgate, Vermont, one of his victims.

According to court records, as part of a plea agreement with the government, Bockus agreed to plead guilty to a two-count Information. The Information charged that on June 12, 2006, Bockus burglarized the United States Post Office at Highgate Center, Vermont. The Information also charged that the next day, June 13, 2006, Bockus burglarized M & R Guns and Ammo, in Highgate Center, Vermont, and stole two firearms. M & R Guns and Ammo is a Federal licensed firearms dealer.

The case was investigated by special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms, and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Mr. Bockus was represented by Assistant Federal Defender Elizabeth Mann. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Barbara Masterson.
