ANGEL COLON SENTENCED FOR HEROIN TRAFFICKING CONSPIRACY
The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Angel Colon, 31, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, was sentenced today to 100 months in prison after his guilty plea to drug trafficking charges. Chief United States District Judge William K. Sessions III, sitting in Burlington, also sentenced Colon to a four-year period of supervised release.
According to court documents in the case, defendant Colon conspired with his co-defendant, Omar Martori, to distribute more than one hundred grams of heroin in Vermont. On February 27, 2005, Colon was arrested in Shelburne, Vermont, in possession of approximately 397 bags of heroin, which he had intended to distribute in the Burlington area.
Martori has also pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 10, 2007.
United States Attorney Thomas D. Anderson commended the efforts of the Burlington Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration in investigating the case. Colon was represented by Assistant Federal Public Defender Elizabeth D. Mann. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Barbara Masterson.
