BURLINGTON MAN INDICTED IN DRUG CASE

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont, stated that Kenneth Jackson, 54, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Burlington, Vermont and charged with possessing with intent to distribute cocaine. Jackson, of Burlington, Vermont, was arraigned in the United States District Court for the District of Vermont on January 8, 2008 and was ordered detained in jail pending trial.

According to court records, on December 3, 2007, Jackson was arrested after law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at his residence on Peru Street in Burlington and found approximately 69 grams (approximately 2.5 ounces) of cocaine. Jackson, who has previously been convicted of cocaine distribution in federal court and was on federal supervised release at the time of his arrest, faces up to life imprisonment and a $2,000,000 fine if convicted. The actual sentence, in the event of a conviction, will be determined in accordance with the federal Sentencing Guidelines. The United States Attorney emphasized that the charge contained in the indictment is an accusation only and the defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The United States Attorney commended the Burlington Police Department for their hard work on this matter. The prosecutor is Assistant United States Attorney Timothy C. Doherty, Jr. The defendant is represented by Assistant Federal Public Defender Robert A. Fellrath.
