ISLAND POND MAN INDICTED FOR POSSESSING STOLEN M-16 RIFLE

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Sean H. Gravel, 20, of Island Pond, Vermont, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Burlington on June 23, 2009 for possessing a stolen M-16A1 semi-automatic rifle. The alleged incident took place in August of 2008.

If convicted, Gravel faces up to 10 years in prison. The Acting United States Attorney cautioned that the Indictment is merely a charging instrument, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Gravel is in the custody of the State of Vermont.

The case was investigated by the Vermont State Police, St. Johnsbury barracks, and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecutor is Assistant United States Attorney William B. Darrow.
