POSTAL EMPLOYEE PLEADS TO OBSTRUCTION OF MAIL

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Crystal Perkins of Irasburg, Vermont, pled guilty today before the Honorable John M. Conroy to misdemeanor obstruction of the mails in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1701. According to the charging information, Perkins obstructed the mail by opening and removing items not addressed to her, and by falsely marking items that she ordered from various retailers to indicate that she did not receive them. Pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement filed with the Court, Ms. Perkins, who has been employed by the Postal Service since 2001, agreed to resign her position with the Post Office.

Following acceptance of Ms. Perkins’ guilty plea, Judge Conroy sentenced Perkins to one year of probation and ordered that she repay approximately $248.00 in restitution. Ms. Perkins was represented by Assistant Federal Public Defender Elizabeth Mann, Esq.
