OPERATION MARBLE VALLEY CRACK DEALER
SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that on August 12, 2009, Adene Reid, 21, of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced in United States District Court in Rutland to 70 months’ imprisonment on his plea of guilty to conspiracy to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine. United States District Judge J. Garvan Murtha also ordered Reid to serve four years of federal supervised release.

According to court records, a federal grand jury in Rutland returned a five-count indictment on May 21, 2008, charging that between April 8 and May 12, 2008, Reid conspired with others to distribute five or more grams of crack cocaine, distributed five or more grams of crack cocaine on three occasions, and distributed less than five grams of crack cocaine on one occasion. Evidence gathered during the investigation demonstrated that Reid distributed more than 450 grams of crack cocaine and more than 200 grams of powder cocaine in the Rutland-Brandon area from the summer of 2006 to May 2008.

The indictment was one of several obtained by the United States Attorney in connection with Operation Marble Valley, a combined federal, state, and local investigation into a wave of drug-related crimes in and around the City of Rutland. After nearly four months of joint investigation, federal, state, and local law enforcement swept the City of Rutland on May 28, 2008, arresting persons targeted by the Operation and wanted for federal or state crimes. Among those sought was Reid, who avoided arrest until October 22, 2008, when he was apprehended in Brandon by the Vermont State Police and subsequently detained pending trial by United States Magistrate Judge Jerome J. Niedermeier. Reid’s co-defendants, Robert Preedom, 49, of Rutland, and Alan Joseph Evanoski, 58, of Brandon, have also entered pleas of guilty to the conspiracy charge and are awaiting sentencing.

United States Attorney Tristram J. Coffin commended the cooperative investigative efforts led by the Vermont State Police Drug Task Force. Attorney Ian Carleton represents Reid. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Nolan.
