SPRINGFIELD MAN SENTENCED FOR FAILURE
TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER
The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated today that Robert Glen Harrison, 29, of Springfield, Vermont, was sentenced last week to 24 months in prison for failing to update his registration as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). Chief United States District Judge William K. Sessions III, also sentenced Harrison to 5 years of supervised release.
According to court documents, on October 26, 1998, Harrison was convicted in Vermont of sexual assault of a minor under the age of 16. Harrison admitted the assault and received a suspended sentence of 1 to 5 years with probation. On November 8, 1999, Harrison violated his probation and was sentenced to serve out his 1 to 5 year term. On March 5, 2003, Harrison was released was prison. On three separate occasions prior to his release, Harrison was advised that he needed to register with the Vermont Sex Offender Registry and keep his registration current. Harrison was specifically told that he needed to advise the State of Vermont of any change of address, and if he moved to a different state, he was told that he needed to register in the new state within three days of moving there.
