James A. McDevitt , United States Attorney

James A. McDevitt was appointed by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate on November 30, 2001.

Prior to his appointment as United States Attorney, Jim was a partner in the Spokane office of Preston Gates Ellis, LLP. Jim's practice emphasized municipal, corporate, commercial and real estate law.

Jim has practiced law for 30 years, including five years as an Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Washington under former Attorney General Slade Gordon.

US Attorney James McDevittWhile in private practice, Jim counseled local, national and international businesses on such issues as antitrust, business organization, sales and acquisitions of stock or assets, commercial real estate transactions and contract negotiations. He has a broad range of experience in international transactions on behalf of a number of clients, as well as extensive civil litigation experience at both the trial court and appellate level.

Jim is a Vietnam and Gulf War veteran and, following a 35-year career of active and reserve duty, he retired as Brigadier General in the Washington Air National Guard.
