Many officers who investigate sensitive crimes do it because they want to help people and make a difference. Eventually assisting others in crisis can take a toll on officers. Hearing, seeing and dealing with tragedy is difficult. Unless we do something about it this could have a major impact on an officers ability to perform their jobs and their personal life.
This workshop will be taught by Dr. Nicole Cruz and Supervisory Special Agent Ric Seabrooks of the FBI’s Undercover Safeguard Unit (USU) located in Virginia. Topics will include: A brief history of the FBI's Undercover Safeguard Unit, a description of the safeguard process, the role of the psychologist, stressors, burnout "compassion fatigue" and vicarious trauma associated with the investigation of crimes against children.
