Four Inmates Enter Pleas to Assault Charge
Two Inmates Sentenced
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - Four federal inmates entered pleas of guilty, and two of the inmates were also sentenced on December 18, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.
Acting United States Attorney Betsy C. Jividen announced that:
MARCUS A. MARTIN, age 25; JOVAN JAMES, age 29; LANCE ERIC APPLEWHITE, age 27; and HERBERT ROBINSON, age 27, entered pleas of guilty to one count charging them with assaulting two individuals with a dangerous weapon, with the intent to do bodily harm on September 14, 2008, at USP Hazelton.
APPLE WHITE and ROBINSON were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, which will be served consecutively to their current sentences.
MARTIN and JAMES, who are in custody pending sentencing, face a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000, and will be sentenced at a later date.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Prisons, an initiative focused on prosecutions to secure a safe prison environment. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David E. Godwin and was investigated by the Special Investigative Services at USP Hazelton and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
