Two Eastern Panhandle Residents Sentenced
On “Crack” Cocaine Charges
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — Two Eastern panhandle residents were sentenced on February 24, 2009, in United States District Court in Martinsburg by Chief Judge John Preston Bailey.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that:
DEVRON JEREL BROWN, age 21, of Martinsburg, was sentenced to 63 months imprisonment to be followed by four years supervised release. BROWN entered a plea of guilty on October 24, 2008, to one count of an Indictment charging him with the distribution of “crack” cocaine on May 11, 2007, in Martinsburg. BROWN is in federal custody.
RICHARD DIRTING, age 54, of Kearneysville, West Virginia, was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release. DIRTING entered a plea of guilty on December 8, 2008, to one count of an Indictment charging him with the distribution of “crack” cocaine on July 2, 2007, in Kearneysville. DIRTING is in federal custody.
The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas O. Mucklow. The cases were investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, consisting of officers from the West Virginia State Police - Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Martinsburg Police Department, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
