Clarksburg Resident Indicted on Marijuana Charge
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 25 year old Clarksburg, West Virginia, resident was named in an Indictment returned on January 6, 2009, by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that MICHAEL DOUGLAS COX was named in a one-count Indictment. The Indictment alleges that COX unlawfully possessed marijuana with the intent to distribute on February 15, 2008, in Ritchie County, West Virginia.
If convicted, COX faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 on the Indictment.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew R. Cogar. The case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police.
IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE CHARGES CONTAINED IN THE INDICTMENT ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS AND NOT EVIDENCE OF GUILT, AND THAT EACH DEFENDANT IS PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY.
