Clarksburg Resident Convicted of
Distributing “Crack” within 1,000 Feet of
Monticello Avenue Playground
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 29 year old Clarksburg, West Virginia, resident was convicted by a Federal Trial Jury on January 15, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg before Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that AHMAD PETERSON was convicted after a two-day trial on two counts of distribution of “crack” cocaine within 1,000 feet of Monticello Avenue Playground on April 2, 2006, and on May 22, 2006.
According to USA Potter, “This prosecution concludes the successful investigation of drug distribution within and around the Vets Club and the Monticello Avenue Playground. Since 2003, the Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force has caused the arrest and conviction of more than 50 persons, including PETERSON. The Vets Club has been closed and is the subject of pending forfeiture proceedings.”
PETERSON, who is in custody pending sentencing, faces a maximum exposure of five to 80 years imprisonment and a fine of $4,000,000 for the April 2006 distribution; and a maximum exposure of one to 40 years imprisonment and a fine of $2,000,000 on the May 2006 distribution.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn Angus Morgan. The case was investigated by the Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, consisting of officers from the Clarksburg Police Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
