Citizen of Guatemala Indicted for
Harboring Illegal Aliens in Inwood, West Virginia
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 48 year old citizen of Guatemala was named in an Indictment returned today (January 21, 2009) by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JUAN EDMUNDO VALENZUELA, also known as JUAN RODAS-VELASCO, was named in a one-count Indictment charging him with harboring two illegal aliens in Inwood, West Virginia, from December 2008 to January 12, 2009.
If convicted, VALENZUELA faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber. The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE CHARGES CONTAINED IN THE INDICTMENT ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS AND NOT EVIDENCE OF GUILT, AND THAT EACH DEFENDANT IS PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY.
