New Jersey Resident Entered Guilty Plea
to Firearms Violation
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 25 year old Hackettstown, New Jersey, resident entered a plea of guilty on March 9, 2009, in United States District Court in Martinsburg before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JOHN ROBERT CAMERON entered a plea of guilty to one count of an Indictment charging CAMERON, a convicted felon, with unlawfully possessing a firearm. CAMERON was examining a .25 caliber Raven pistol on February 15, 2009, and shot himself in he leg. He has prior convictions for burglary and weapons in New Jersey.
CAMERON, who is in custody, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
