Weston Resident Indicted on
Firearms Charge
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 40 year old Weston, West Virginia, resident was named in an Indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on September 1, 2009.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that RICHARD HAYHURST was named in a one-count Indictment. The Indictment alleges that HAYHURST, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, knowingly possessed firearms on January 22, 2008, in Weston.
If convicted, HAYHURST faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Zelda E. Wesley. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.
It should be noted that the charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
