Wheeling Man Pleads Guilty to Selling His Prescriptions

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA — A 62 year old Wheeling, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on August 31, 2009, in United States District Court in Wheeling before Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that WILLARD HUMES entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone for his role in providing OxyContins from his monthly prescriptions for resale. His prosecution is part of the United States Attorney’s Operation Pill Broker. HUMES had a monthly prescription for 90 OxyContin 40 milligram tablets and after having his prescription filled, HUMES would provide between 50 and 60 of the pills to a co-defendant who would then sell the pills for $35.00 a pill. As part of his plea, HUMES admitted he had been selling his pills in this manner for at least five months, beginning in December of 2008.

HUMES, who is free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $1,000,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr. The case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police-Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
