Former Morgantown Resident Indicted For
Failure to Update Sex Offender Registration
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 45 year old Elgin, Illinois, resident was named in an Indictment returned on September 8, 2010, by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced that VINCENT ACQUASANTA, formerly of Morgantown, West Virginia, was named in a one-count Indictment. The Indictment alleges that ACQUASANTA, a person required to register under the Sex Offender Notification Act, and who traveled in interstate commerce, knowingly failed to update a registration from January 20, 2010, to April 24, 2010, in Morgantown.
If convicted ACQUASANTA faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David J. Perri. The case was investigated by the United States Marshal Service.
It should be noted that the charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
