Ohio Resident Enters Plea to Heroin Charge

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - A 43year old Bellaire, Ohio, resident entered a plea of guilty on August 3, 2011, in United States District Court in Wheeling before Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced that PETER POON entered a plea of guilty to one count of distribution of heroin within 1,000 feet of the Bloch playground on June 17, 2011, on Wheeling Island. POON was arrested shortly after this distribution and an inventory search of his vehicle resulted in seven additional bags of heroin and $1,622 in currency being found. POON, who is in custody pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of one to 40 years imprisonment and a fine of $2,000,000.

“The Ohio Valley Drug Task Force worked in conjunction with a confidential informant to take down another heroin dealer, making controlled purchases from the defendant on two occasions in June on Wheeling Island,” said USA Ihlenfeld. “This unit works around the clock to keep drugs off the street, and I appreciate all that they do, as well as the support provided to the task force by Sheriff Butler and Chief Matheny.”

The case was prosecuted by United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II and Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr and was investigated by the Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force. The Task Force consists of officers from the Wheeling Police Department, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
