Another Saunders’ Associate Sentenced

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - Another associate of Robert “R.J.” Saunders was sentenced in United States District Court in Wheeling on January 10, 2011, by Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that MICHAEL MARINO, age 46, of Wheeling, was sentenced to three years probation, with the first six months being served under home detention. MARINO previously entered a plea of guilty on September 27, 2010, to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in the Wheeling area from the Fall of 2001 to August 29, 2009. MARINO is the sixth individual sentenced as part of an investigation of Robert Saunders and his associates regarding the distribution of cocaine and marijuana. As part of the investigation, MARINO was identified as a re-distributor of at least 7 to 10 ounces of cocaine supplied to him by Saunders.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr. The case was investigated by the Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force. The Task Force consists of officers from the Wheeling Police Department, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
