Inwood Man Indicted for Failure to Register As a Sex Offender
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 34 year old living in Inwood, West Virginia, was named in an Indictment returned on May 17, 2011, by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that MICHAEL HUNTER NORRIS was named in a one-count Indictment. The Indictment alleges that NORRIS, who was required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, traveled in interstate commerce from the State of Virginia to the State of West Virginia and knowingly failed to register as a sex offender from December 15, 2010, continuing to February 17, 2011.
If convicted, NORRIS faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber. The case was investigated by the United States Marshal Service.
It should be noted that the charges contained in the Indictment are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
