Elkins Resident Enters Plea of Guilty
to Making False Statements

ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA — A 25 year old Elkins, West Virginia, resident entered plea of guilty on October 20, 2011, in United States District Court in Elkins before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced that: CASSANDRA SMITH a/k/a “CASEY” entered a plea of guilty to one count of knowingly making false, fraudulent, and fictitious statements and representations to agents of the ATF and FBI on February 16, 2011. SMITH, who is currently free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty
of five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

SMITH was indicted on multiple charges in April of 2011 along with Anthony Lambert
and Sherry Smith. Lambert and Sherry Smith previously entered pleas of guilty to making false and fraudulent statements to law enforcement authorities and are awaiting sentencing.

The case was prosecuted by USA Ihlenfeld and Assistant United States Attorney Shawn Angus Morgan and was investigated by the United States Marshal Service; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; the West Virginia State Police; and the Elkins Police Department.
