Two Martinsburg Residents Arrested
Pursuant to Federal Indictment

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - Two Martinsburg, West Virginia, residents were arrested and appeared before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel pursuant to Indictments returned against them last week by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that:

JAMES EDWARD ALSTON, age 44, and TRAVIS ELSTON LUTTRELL, age 30, were charged in a five-count drug trafficking indictment. ALSTON is named in three counts of the indictment charging him with the distribution of crack cocaine. LUTTRELL is named in four counts of the indictment charging him with the distribution of crack cocaine.

If convicted ALSTON and LUTTRELL face 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of $1,000,000 on each count.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas O. Mucklow and was investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, consisting of officers from the West Virginia State Police - Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Martinsburg Police Department, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.

It should be noted that the charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
