Barbour County Attorney
Enters Plea of Guilty to Mail Fraud

ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA - A 43 year old Belington, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on November 6, 2012, in United States District Court in Elkins before Magistrate Judge John S. Kaull.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: LISA A. WEESE entered a plea of guilty to Mail Fraud. WEESE, an attorney admitted to the West Virginia State Bar, is a private practitioner engaged in civil and criminal law and her office is in Barbour County. From September 2006 to September 2011, WEESE was a panel attorney for the West Virginia Public Defender Services and submitted vouchers and corresponding orders, via the United States Mail, falsely reporting the number of hours she had worked. During the five-year period, the sum paid to WEESE based on her false voucher reports of work performed was $159,130.08.

WEESE, who is free on bond pending sentencing, faces up to 20 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen D. Warner and investigated by the West Virginia Commission on Special Investigations.
