Martinsburg Resident Entered
Guilty Plea To Making False Statement
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 32 year old Martinsburg, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on May 17, 2007, in United States District Court in Martinsburg before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JUAN CARLOS BENAVIDES ARGENAL entered a plea of guilty to one count of an Indictment charging him with making a false statement in application of a passport in June of 2006 by providing a name and Social Security number on the application which were not his own.
ARGENAL, who is in custody, faces a maximum exposure of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber. The case was investigated by the United States Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service.
