In matters prosecuted by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia:

RALEIGH COUNTY WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO EMBEZZLEMENT

BECKLEY, WV – DONNA ROLES, 50, of Beckley, WV, pleaded guilty today before United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston to embezzling money from a labor organization.

On May 20, 2008, a Federal grand jury sitting in Charleston, WV returned a two-count indictment against ROLES charging her with embezzlement and falsifying bank records. At her hearing, ROLES admitted she embezzled at least $60,000 dollars from United Steelworkers Local 14310 from January 1, 2002 through September 5, 2005. At the time, ROLES, an elected officer of the Union, served as the Financial Secretary.

ROLES, who is scheduled to be sentenced on February 2, 2009, faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The Department of Labor conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Erik S. Goes is handling the prosecution.
