U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming Christopher A. Crofts announced today that on November 13, 2012, Allen Standing Elk, a 30 year old Northern Arapaho Tribal Member, was sentenced for assaulting a family member and assaulting a federal law enforcement officer on the Wind River Indian Reservation. The case involved two separate incidents on November 21, 2011 and December 17, 2011, wherein Standing Elk assaulted a detention officer in the Wind River Police Department’s detention center, and later caused a compound fracture to a family member’s forearm by hitting him with a stick. Mr. Standing Elk was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson to 18 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $200.00 special assessment. Mr. Standing Elk was also ordered to pay restitution to the Wyoming Medical Center in the amount of $17,268.82 in connection with medical treatment for one of his victims. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
