Kingston ACTIVITY REPORT OFFICE OF TRUST RECORDS February 1-28,2010 PROGRAMMATIC: • Indexing OTR staff completed indexing of 721 boxes in February 2010. The total number of boxes completed through February 2010 is approximately 199,235. • Movement of Records The Bureau ofIndian Affairs (BIA) and Office of the Special Trustee (OST) moved 942 boxes of inactive records from various field locations to Lenexa, Kansas, for indexing and subsequent storage at the American Indian Records Repository (AIRR) during this reporting period. • Boxes Requiring Remediation The Acting Superintendent, BIA Rosebud Agency, informed OTR that eight ledger books and four cubic feet of records at the Agency have mold and require remediation. The Agency has requested funding from the BIA Central Office to remediate the records. • Site Assessments Statement During the month of February, OTRA performed two records management assessments, one each at the following locations: Eastern Navajo Region BIA office and Eastern Navajo Region OST 11MField office. OTRA issued three records management assessment reports, one each for the following locations: Northwest Region BIA office; Northwest Region OST 11MField office; and OST, Office of Appraisal Services, Northwest Region. • Records Training In February 2010, OTR provided records management training for 36 BIA/OST records contacts and 9 tribal employees. OTR did not provide training on vital records for this month. OTR provided electronic records management training for 37 OST employees. Note: The December 2009 report stated that OTR provided records management training for 45 BIA/OST records contacts, but the actual number was 51. 1 • Litigation Support and Research Requests OTR continued to provide significant support to the Office of the Solicitor, Office of Historical Trust Accounting and its contractors, the Department of Justice and its contractors, and tribal attorneys and their contractors. OTR continued to receive requests for information regarding litigation-related document requests. Many of these requests have very short deadlines. During February 2010, OTR AIRR staff provided responses to 225 non-litigation research requests from BIA and OST. ADMINISTRATIVE: General administrative activities continued.
