Coordination with INS Initiatives | 59 | 29 | $4,852 |
The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) request includes enhancements for 570 Border Patrol agents, Integrated Surveillance Information System technology, and 1,607 additional detention beds to support the enhanced capability to apprehend and remove increasing numbers of criminal and non-criminal aliens. INS initiatives will increase Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) caseload by an estimated 10,000 cases and appeals annually. Critical to the success of these INS initiatives will be the ability of EOIR to process the resulting Immigration Judge and appellate caseload in a timely fashion.
In an effort to keep pace with INS enhancements, EOIR is requesting 59 positions, 29 workyears, and $4,852,000. These 59 positions include 8 Immigration Judges, 10 BIA attorneys, and legal and clerical support positions.
