| Congress
enacted a permanent indefinite appropriation to fund the expenses of
Independent Counsel investigations and prosecutions in the 1988 Department
of Justice Appropriations Act (P.L. 100-202). Under this appropriation,
all necessary costs and expenses incurred in the pursuit of these investigations
were funded from amounts available in the Treasury. On June 30, 1999,
the Reauthorization Act of 1994 expired. To date there has been no reauthorization;
however, several investigations are ongoing. This account also pays
for appointed Special Counsel. |
