Memphis and Nashville (Tennessee), Atlanta (Georgia), and New Orleans (Louisiana) are major cities with populations over 250,000.

Beaumont (Texas); Lafayette, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and Metairie (Louisiana); Jackson (Mississippi); Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and Huntsville (Alabama); Tallahassee (Florida); Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Clarksville (Tennessee); and Little Rock (Arkansas) are major cities with populations between 100,000 and 249,999.

Fort Smith (Arkansas); Tuscaloosa (Alabama); and Albany, Roswell, and Sandy Springs (Georgia) are major cities with populations less than 100,000.

Biloxi and Oxford (Mississippi); and Pine Bluff and Texarkana (Arkansas) are cities of interest.

Metairie and New Orleans (Louisiana); Biloxi (Mississippi); and Mobile (Alabama) are major seaports.

Alexandria and New Orleans (Louisiana); Jackson (Mississippi); Birmingham and Huntsville (Alabama); and Memphis (Tennessee) are international airports.

The interstates in the area are I-10, I-12, I-20, I-30, I-40, I-49, I-55, I-59, I-65, I-75, I-85, and I-185.

The Gulf Coast HIDTA includes the counties/parishes of Caddo, Bossier, Ouachita, Calcasieu, Lafayette, East Baton Rouge, Jefferson, and Orleans (Louisiana); Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Rankin, Madison, Hinds, and Lafayette (Mississippi); Mobile, Baldwin, Montgomery, Jefferson, Morgan, and Madison (Alabama); and Jefferson, Pulaski, Washington, and Benton (Arkansas).
