Judge Thomas M. Hardiman
Nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
- Judge Thomas M. Hardiman, U.S. District Court for the Western District
of Pennsylvania, is a highly respected jurist who is widely praised
by lawyers and fellow judges alike for his intellect, fairness, and
judicial temperament.
- Judge Hardiman has been nominated to the Third Circuit, which
hears appeals from the federal district courts of Pennsylvania,
New Jersey, Delaware, and the Virgin Islands.
- Judge Hardiman has the strong support of his home state senators.

- Judge Hardiman has a distinguished record as an attorney in private
practice and as a district court judge.
- Judge Hardiman was confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the
Western District of Pennsylvania by a voice vote in the U.S. Senate
in October 2003.
- From 1992 to 2003, Judge Hardiman engaged in the private practice
of law in Pittsburgh and was a partner at two prominent law firms,
Titus & Cindrich (later Titus & McConomy) and Reed Smith. His
practice focused on civil and white–collar criminal litigation.
- From 1989 to 1992, Judge Hardiman was an attorney with Skadden,
Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Washington,
DC. His practice at that time was focused on litigation, primarily
contracts, securities, bankruptcy, and white-collar criminal cases.
- While an attorney in private practice, Judge Hardiman demonstrated
his commitment to pro bono activities. He litigated a number
of cases pro bono, including immigration matters, a death penalty
case, and various constitutional and administrative law matters.
- Judge Hardiman has impeccable academic credentials and professional
training.
- Judge Hardiman, a Notre Dame Scholar, graduated from the University
of Notre Dame, in 1987.
- Judge Hardiman received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law
Center in 1990, where he was the Notes & Comments Editor of
the Georgetown Law Journal.
- Judge Hardiman has been an active member of the community in both
legal and non-legal capacities.
- Judge Hardiman was a hearing officer for the Disciplinary Board
of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He served on the Governor’s
Judicial Advisory Commission for the Fifth Judicial District and
