U.S. TRUSTEE APPOINTED FOR MAINE, MASSACHUSETTS, NEW HAMPSHIRE AND RHODE ISLAND

WASHINGTON, D.C -- Attorney General Janet Reno has appointed J. Christopher Marshall of Manchester, New Hampshire, as United States Trustee to oversee the administration of bankruptcy cases in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, the Justice Department announced today.

Marshall, whose appointment runs for five years, assumed his duties on August 5, 1996. He brings over 15 years of bankruptcy experience in the private sector to his new role as U.S. Trustee for Region 1. The principal office for Region 1 is in Boston.

Marshall, a graduate of Dartmouth College, earned his Law Degree from George Washington University National Law Center in 1973 and joined the law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 1981, he was appointed Vice President and Director of that firm. Marshall has dedicated his practice almost exclusively to bankruptcy since 1988, representing creditors, debtors, trustees, and creditors' committees.

Marshall is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He has served as an instructor of continuing legal education courses for the New Hampshire Bar Association and the National Business Institute. He has also been active in several civic organizations, recently serving as a gaol leader for Manchester Goals 2000, a community based, grass roots organization to reform and improve public schools.

As the U.S. Trustee for Region 1, Marshall will play an important oversight role in the administration of the bankruptcy process, appointment and monitoring of individuals employed to represent bankruptcy estates, commenting on fee applications of attorneys and other professionals, as well as investigating and assisting in the prosecution of bankruptcy crimes.

Marshall is married and has three children.
