         ATTORNEY GENERAL TO WELCOME KWEISI MFUME TO THE
        JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO BE SWORN-IN AS HEAD OF NAACP

       President Clinton and Vice-President Gore to Attend

     WASHINGTON, D.C.--President Clinton, Vice-President Gore and
Attorney General Reno will attend the swearing-in ceremony of
Kweisi Mfume as President and CEO of the NAACP.  The event will
take place on Tuesday, February 20, 1996 at 11:00 am in the Great
Hall of the Department of Justice.


     Press should enter at the Constitution Avenue entrance
(between 9th and 10th Street, NW).  Media may pre-set from 
8:00 am - 9:00 am.  The Great Hall will be closed at 9:00 am and
will re-open for the media to set-up at 10:00 am.
