More than 80 chiefs of police and sheriffs from across the country are participating in the board's effort to advise the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) on innovative policing programs and methods. The members of the resource board also will provide firsthand information for agencies seeking to adopt community oriented policing or improve their existing efforts. When: 9:30 a.m., Friday, February 23, 1996 Where: Colonial Room, Mayflower Hotel, Washington, D.C. The COPS Office was formed after Congress passed the 1994 Crime Act to place an additional 100,000 law enforcement officers on the nation's streets. The Administration has announced funding for more than 33,000 police officers and sheriffs' deputies to date across the country.
