FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JMD WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 1996 (202) 514-2008 TDD (202) 514-1888 ATTORNEY GENERAL LEADS 1996 FEDERAL SAVINGS BOND KICKOFF RALLY WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorney General Janet Reno kicked off the 1996 Federal Savings Bond Campaign at a rally today at the Andrew Mellow Auditorium. Last year President Clinton asked the Department of Justice to act as the lead agency in the 1996 U.S. Savings Bonds Federal Campaign and named Reno as Chair of the Interagency Savings Bond Committee. "U.S. Savings Bonds are an investment in your future and in America's future," Reno told the participants. "In fiscal year 1995, more than a million federal and military employees purchased savings bonds through the payroll savings plan--savings which can be used to finance a child's education, as a downpayment for a new home or to supplement retirment income," she noted. The campaign goal is to increase the participation level in the payroll savings plan and boost current allotments. # # # 96-123
