                          MEDIA ADVISORY

     WASHINGTON, D.C.-- A copy of the Justice Department's proposal
for reforming federal procurement programs will be made available
tomorrow at the Department's Office of Public Affairs, Rm. 1228 at
11:30 AM.  The Department is seeking public comment on the
proposal, which will be published Thursday in the Federal Register. 


     The proposal responds to the President's directive last year
to reform affirmative action programs and to comply with last
summer's Supreme Court decision in Adarand.

     Associate Attorney General John Schmidt and Assistant Attorney
General for Civil Rights Deval L. Patrick will brief reporters on
the proposal on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in Conference Room B of the
Justice Department.
