ANTITRUST DIVISION NAMES NEW DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR ECONOMIC ANALYSIS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AT WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1996 (202) 616-2771 TDD (202) 514-1888 ANTITRUST DIVISION NAMES NEW DEPUTY ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR ECONOMIC ANALYSIS WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Justice's Antitrust Division announced today the appointment of Northern Virginia resident, Andrew Joskow, 38, as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for economic analysis. Anne K. Bingaman, Assistant Attorney General in charge of Antitrust Division, said that Joskow will be responsible for supervising all economic analysis within the Division and directing the Division's Economic Analysis Group. Joskow will provide advice on both merger and civil non-merger investigations. "Dr. Joskow has considerable experience in the antitrust field and has managed economic analysis within the Antitrust Division for a number of years. He has studied extensively issues relating to regulated industries, including telecommunications and aviation. He also brings extensive experience working on legislation to the job. We are extremely fortunate to have him as the new Deputy for Economics," said Bingaman. Joskow has been Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General for economic analysis since May 1996. Prior to that he was Chief of the Division's Economic Regulatory Section. Joskow was also a Senior Economist at the President's Council of Economic Advisers from 1991 to 1993, where he specialized in regulated industries. Joskow received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1984. He earned a B.A. degree in economics from Cornell University in 1979. Joskow and his wife Lisa Sockett, an attorney for the Federal Communications Commission, live with their three month old daughter Melissa in Arlington, Virginia. ### 96-513
