       ATTORNEY GENERAL AND COMPTROLLER OF THE CURRENCY TO 
          CO-SPONSOR NATIVE AMERICAN BANKING CONFERENCE

     WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorney General Janet Reno will join
Comptroller of the Currency Eugene Ludwig at a Conference on
Banking in Indian Country.

     The conference, sponsored by the Justice Department's Office
of Tribal Justice and the Treasury Department's Office of the
Comptroller of the Currency, will take place Thursday, July 24,
1997 at the Rennaisance Hotel, 999 Ninth Street, NW.  Ludwig will
open the conference at 8:30 a.m., Reno will address the conference
at noon. 

     The entire event is open to the media.  Reporters who would
like to attend should register with Janis Smith from the
Comptroller's Office at 202-874-5770.
